What is 7-OH in Kratom?

Posted by

Kratom is an herb widely used for its energizing, calming, and euphoric effects on the user. Of course, some of you may already know that Kratom is also used for its late-night application of drowsiness for a deep night’s sleep or, alternatively, a very mellow 5pm wind-down. All of this is to say that Kratom is, famously, a dynamic herb with a wide array of properties and use-cases, and many of these use cases are owed to the 7-OH component to the herb.

This properties are owed to the dozens of alkaloids in Kratom. When picked naturally, the herb sport many different effects that may vary depending on dosage. When dried and packed into a product, what Kratom does to the user will depending on the method of preparation for product placement. Certain methods create green Kratom, which offers users energy and focus, while other methods might create red strains, which produce that aforementioned drowsy feeling in the user.

In some cases, vendors offer specialized, highly potent 7-OH products that take the energizing effect of Kratom and concentrate it by isolating the 7-OH alkaloid into a potent, concentrated pill or capsule. The use cases for 7-OH products are severly limited when broadly compared to the herb from which 7-OH is derived: Kratom offers users a wide array of useful effects that, while definitely habit forming for users who over-use and abuse the herb, whether in powder, pill, or capsule form, 7-OH products are most certainly only for experienced Kratom users who have a proven track record of being able to use the herb successfully and with self-mitigating restraint to avoid developing a dependency.

Use Cases of the 7-OH Alkaloid

To reiterate a very important point, the use cases of the 7-OH alkaloid are extremely limited when compared to Kratom altogether. Where some users will use Kratom in the morning to occasionally replace their coffee intake or late at night after an extremely long day to make the most of their sleep, 7-OH products are almost universally going to be sought after for one thing: strong euphoria and pain relief.

Given that 7-OH as an alkaloid is only found in Kratom in small doses, it makes sense that taking Kratom (as a powdered mix for instance) offers users very tame senses of euphoria and, at higher doses, pain relief. But just as the alkaloid can prove to be useful in small doses, experienced Kratom users might find that the herb just doesn’t give them the same effects that it used to and, if taken in very limited measure, will absolutely provide those experienced users with the same of euphoria and relief that Kratom and kava used to.

In general, one might try 7-OH products as a rare addition to a party night or to keep stored away as pain medication during times of unfortunate injuries. Granted, the safest way to obtain such medication is to go through a doctor’s recommendation, but the use case is still there nonetheless.

In Summary

The 7-OH alkaloid is a very potent, very useful drug when consumed for the right reasons and with the right level of personal restraint. If you are interested in trying out 7-OH products for yourself, naturally, the first place you should turn to is Kratom products. They are much less likely to develop dependencies within the user and still provide the effects that 7-OH does, but with a much wider array of use cases.

Without enough experience with Kratom and Kratom products, jumping the gun to 7-OH might not be the right choice for most users (or ANY user). But assuming a user does have a good relationship with the herb and would like to try something more concentrated, 7-OH products, such as Real Botanicals’ lineup of pills, could be a rewarding place to start.

The most important reiteration to note here is that 7-OH is not a casual alkaloid for everyday, casual use. It has euphoric effects that can be great during a rare night out and it has pain relieving effects that can be useful for those moments in life where an injury is too much to indulge. Aside from these use cases, Kratom is not only going to be an herb of wider application, but also one that can be ingested far more often and with less long-term complications.
