Replacing Coffee with Kratom

Posted by

The essence of Kratom and it’s rising popularity lies within its versatility: what types of Kratom you take alongside what dosages can lead to a wide array of effects, benefits and drawbacks. In lower dosages, Kratom tends to act either as a euphoria inducing, energy providing pick-me-up or a relaxing herb to wind the day down on. This variance, among others, depends on the strain of Kratom used. Obviously, this might pique some user’s interest in pursuing Kratom as a replacement for their coffee or caffeine supplement.

Having access to a single source of energy that can, in certain contexts, also be used to come down from a full day is an attractive prospect for the modern life. But how can it be done safely and effectively?

Using Kratom Effectively

Where coffee is sought after for its high access to caffeine, Kratom is sought after, primarily, for the Mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine alkaloids. These alkaloids, among others, work to create the dynamic effects Kratom gives its users.

In lower dosages, between 200mg and 5g, Kratom will give users the energizes effects that coffee is known for, with a side of euphoria and, generally, less crash. In higher dosages, that same strain of Kratom can be used for sedative effects, making it useful as a painkiller. Obviously, then, our first piece of advice for users who want to replace their caffeine with some Kratom would be to keep the dosages low. You’re trying to get work done, presumably. Falling asleep in your office chair doesn’t help in that regard.

Something else to consider is the method of ingestion. Where coffee acts as a morning routine, it also takes up the space of someone’s life in a multitude of ways: It’s a social drink in the mornings and afternoons, it’s a ritual for individuals, and it gives idlers something to do with their hands while waitin’ around for that which comes (and you cannot stop what’s comin’.)

Because of these facts, it isn’t pragmatic to tell all users to simply start taking a 500mg pill of Kratom every morning to replace coffee. Obviously the effects spurned on by the caffeine in coffee is half the draw. The other half is all of the things mentioned above. To effectively replace the social and ritualistic aspects of coffee, consider ingesting Kratom through liquid methods, such as Real Botanicals’ Kava and Kratom shot.

We’ve covered this product before, but the jist of this ingestion method and its benefits is that you can get the same effect that coffee gives you, in a drink that you already enjoy, with a greater feeling of euphoria, and with less of a crash. Using the same herb, (though we recommend a product designated as a “red” stain) you can also wind down from the day. Needless to say, Coffee, though widespread, doesn’t have this kind of versatility.

Of course, all of this info assumes the ritualistic, social aspect of coffee is even important to a user. If you’re the kind of busy-body who just needs something to be effective to get things done, taking Kratom in pill form is equally as effective as when mixed with a drink, but a whole lot quicker, generally speaking.

For newer users, we recommend starting with a product as discussed above, the Real Botanicals shot, both the weaker and the stronger version, feature appropriate dosages for an invigorating effect without going anywhere near overboard, alongside some Kava for a calming effect to shake hands with all of that energy. More experienced users can use the 7-OH tablets for a more concentrated effect.

As is the case with every single Kratom product on the market, don’t use the product as a sole source of energy or with the intent to use it multiple times daily for months on end: the herb can be addicted, and for people who go overboard and learn to rely on Kratom to meet all of their energy (or emotional) needs, coming off of that pattern can lead to some nasty withdrawals.

For a pragmatic approach, it can be wise to use Kratom sparingly to replace coffee on occasion so that you can reap the benefits without developing a dependency on the herb.
