Vaping is not a new trend in the CBD world, but it is in the kratom industry. A few months ago, I was at the Fit Expo Los Angeles, talking to a vendor who sells natural botanical extracts, when someone at the next booth asked a question I had never heard in person before.
“Have you tried vaping kratom yet?”
That caught my attention, because in the last decade, I have interacted with hundreds of kratom users, vendors, and product formulators, and I don’t remember anyone talking about vaping kratom as one of the ways of using it. Most of our discussions focused on kratom powder, capsules, extract, shots, and tablets.
Later that evening, I got on Reddit and started asking around whether anyone had tried vaping kratom. Most of the people who have tried it say the effects hit faster, while a large majority were of the idea that inhaling kratom works the same way as cannabis and nicotine vapes.
I also came across a few vendors who were experimenting with liquid formulations marketed as “kratom vape juice”.
So, is vaping kratom actually safe, effective, or even worth considering?
After speaking with long-term kratom users, reviewing product formulations, and comparing how kratom alkaloids behave in different delivery formats, the answer became much clearer. Here is my unbiased review of whether vaping kratom is a good idea.
Key Takeaways
- Vaping kratom is possible, but it remains one of the newest and least understood kratom delivery methods
- Heating kratom alkaloids like mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine changes their chemical structure, which affects consistency and product reliability
- Most users report that vaping kratom feels harder to measure, less predictable, and shorter lasting than traditional oral extracts
- The biggest health concerns linked to vaping kratom include lung irritation, coughing, chest discomfort, and the unknown long-term effects of inhaling heated alkaloids
- Many kratom vape products lack batch-specific lab reports, ingredient breakdowns, and solvent transparency, making quality verification difficult
- Liquid kratom extracts, kratom tinctures, and kratom shots currently offer better dosing accuracy, stronger transparency, and a more predictable overall experience than vaping
Can You Actually Vape Kratom?
Yes, there is absolutely no reason why you can’t, thanks to the many liquid kratom extracts designed for vapor devices on the market. But this is a new way of using kratom that our ancestors would be shocked to the core if they found you doing it.
The conventional ways of consuming the active alkaloids in kratom, 7-hydroxymitragynine and mitragynine, are raw leaf powder, tinctures, capsules, concentrated extracts, and brewed teas. Heating the liquid extract to vapor form alters the chemical composition of these alkaloids, raising new concerns.
At high temperatures, the alkaloid structure breaks down, significantly altering the consistency and predictability of the final product. This fact alone is a deal breaker for me and makes kratom vape products more difficult to trust than other product formats.
Does Vaping Kratom Work?
As mentioned earlier, most of the kratom users I spoke to assume that inhaling kratom results in faster and stronger effects. This is not far-fetched, as the alkaloids are absorbed directly into the bloodstream as they don’t undergo digestion.

But unfortunately, that has not been my experience, and most of the people I spoke to described the effects as;
- Hard to measure
- Inconsistent
- Less predictable than oral extracts
- Effects last fewer hours than expected
I strongly believe that compared to kratom tinctures, kratom shots, or standard extract tablets like 7-OH alternatives Oxonol and Pseudo, vaping creates far more uncertainty.
Health Risks of Vaping Kratom
This is where things get serious and interesting. Firstly, there is limited long-term research on the effects of using kratom in vapor form. That does not automatically mean that all kratom vaping products are dangerous, but it does remove a lot of certainty.
We’ve been reviewing botanical extracts for more than five years now, and here are our main concerns about these new products.
Unknown Effects of Heating Kratom Alkaloids
Heats change or rather break down the alkaloids, and they behave differently under heat. When vaporized, rest assured the chemical profile will change, and this will have a significant ripple effect on the product’s potency and safety.
Lung Irritation
Some of the people who have tried this way of using kratom report throat irritation, coughing, and chest discomfort. Not to throw too much shade on kratom vape products, but it’s a recurring complaint which warrants its inclusion in this list.
Product Quality Concerns
Most brands are still experimenting with these products, and so most of them didn’t provide:
- Batch-specific lab reports
- Ingredient breakdowns
- Solvent information
- Alkaloid percentages
Without this information, you can’t tell whether the product is safe or what its long-term effects are. You can only trust customer reviews, and we all know some brands post fake testimonials to lure unsuspecting customers.
Quick Comparison of Different Kratom Delivery Methods
Now that you know the health risks of vaping kratom, let’s go a step further and compare the different kratom delivery methods.
| Kratom Product | Absorption Speed | Serving Control | Product Transparency | Overall Reliability |
| Vaping kratom | Fast but inconsistent | Almost impossible to measure | Often limited | Low |
| Liquid kratom extracts | Fast | Easy to adjust | High | High |
| Kratom tinctures | Fast to moderate | Easy to track | Strong | High |
| Kratom shots | Fast | Pre-measured | Strong | High |
| Kratom capsules | Slower | Very consistent | Strong | High |
After testing different formats myself, liquid kratom extracts and kratom tinctures gave me the most predictable experience, especially when I wanted faster absorption without sacrificing dosing accuracy. The main problem with vaping, it’s easy to overshoot because there is no way of knowing how much alkaloids you consume per vaping session.
So, Should You Vape Kratom
At the time of writing, vaping kratom raises more questions than answers. The products are new in the market, and there are few studies to confirm their safety and potency.
However, that does not mean kratomvape products are unsafe. It means the risk-to-reward ratio is harder to justify when kratom tinctures, liquid kratom extracts, and kratom shots already offer more consistency, better transparency, and stronger buyer confidence.
