Is Delta-9 Safe? My First Time Using Delta-9 and What I Learned

Posted by

Is Delta-9 safe? Over the years, I’ve probably tried more than 50 different natural botanicals, but if there is one that really shocked me to the core, it’s the hemp-derived Delta-9 gummy. C’mon a a little curiosity doesn’t hurt, does it?

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one. I had read conflicting reviews online. Some people said it worked just fine if used responsibly and moderately. Others warned me that overshooting could lead to anxiety or worse health issues. I still vividly remember the first night I tried it, and I can confirm the effects are REAL.

Though my allegiance is to kratom and kava products, the many scientific studies and lab reports published online, as well as reviews from people who use it regularly, got me thinking, why not write an article to answer the question, Is Delta 9 safe?

Here is my unbiased review of Delta-9 and its legality to help you decide whether it’s worth buying.

What is Delta-9 THC?

Simply put, Delta-9 is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces the “high” feeling. It’s what gives you a buzz after eating a weed cookie. This compound binds strongly to the cannabinoid receptors in your brain, particularly the CB1 receptors, and changes how neurons communicate.

At first, I thought Delta-9 was a newly discovered compound, but to my surprise, this is exactly what people mean when they talk about THC.

As you will soon see, some of the reported effects include;

  • Altered perception of time
  • Euphoria
  • Increased appetite
  • Boost relaxation

This is the number one question most people, including me, ask before ordering them online. Others who are sceptical and live with a fear of THC ask, How is Delta-9 legal, while other products like 7-OH have been banned in some states like Florida.

The short answer to this question is that legality here in the United States depends on how the Delta-9 is sourced and on the concentration. According to the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is federally legal. However, the cannabis cannot exceed 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight. That created a loophole that allows hemp-derived Delta-9 products to be sold legally if they adhere to this limit.

So, you won’t get in trouble with authorities if you order Delta-9 products derived from hemp online. But any cannabis product that exceeds the limit of 0.03% is considered marijuana and is federally illegal. This also creates a loophole that permits recreational and medical use in some states.

Do your due diligence because a Delta-9 edible in one state might be fully legal to buy in a dispensary, while the same item could be illegal somewhere else.

How Does Delta-9 Work in Your Body

As mentioned earlier, Delta-9 interacts with the endocannabinoid system in your brain by targeting receptors that regulate pain, motor function, appetite, memory, and mood. The magnitude of the effects depends on dose.

Different consumption methods (smoking, vaping, eating) change how strongly and how fast it hits you. For instance;

  • Onset is quick and rapid if you vape or smoke
  • Onset of edibles is 30 to 90 minutes or more, but the effects last longer

Another important thing to note is that the liver breaks down Delta-9 into other compounds that can be more potent. This explains why edibles feel stronger and are harder to control for more beginners.

What Are The Short-Term Effects of Delta-9

Most beginners can manage the effects of a low dose. They include;

  • Red eyes
  • Dry mouth and eyes
  • Dizziness
  • Increased heart rate
  • Slowed reaction time
  • Impaired judgment and coordination

If you must use this product, I highly recommend that you start with small doses and monitor how your body responds. Also, watch out for psychological effects like increased anxiety, which can trigger paranoia, especially at high doses.

What Are The Long-Term Effects and Frequent Use of Delta-9

Like other natural botanicals, like kava and kratom, frequent and uncontrolled use of Delta-9 is not recommended. The long-term effects include;

  • Elevated tolerance
  • Addiction or dependence
  • Withdrawal symptoms, like irritability and insomnia, may occur if you go cold turkey
  • Cognitive effects in young users
  • Potential complications if used alongside other drugs and alcohol

According to a report by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, frequent and heavy use of Delta-9 products can result in cannabis use disorder/addiction.

How to Use Delta-9 Safely

If you’re bold enough and decide to try Delta-9, here are some practical tips on how to use it safely.

  • Start with small doses to give your body enough time to adjust to the effects
  • Wait before increasing your dose, especially with edibles, because the effects take longer to kick in
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery after using
  • If you’re on medications or have a health condition, consult your doctor before you start

The Bottom Line: Is Delta-9 Safe

My honest answer is that it Delta-9 can be safe for many adults when used responsibly and under conditions that minimize risk. But it’s also a psychoactive substance with real effects on your brain and body. People who overconsume, use untested products, or have underlying health issues like high blood pressure and a history of drug abuse are at a high risk.

That said, you are better off using kratom products like the mild kratom kava shot from Real Botanicals if you want something that works, is pure, and lab-tested.

Good luck, and share your experience and thoughts in the comments section.
