7-OH has a few things that its famous for; it’s relationship to Mitragynine, the fact that its found in Kratom in trace amounts, it’s euphoric effects on the user, and the fact that, today, Vendors are selling it in purified form so that one no longer has to go through Kratom consumption to gain access to it.
7-OH also has a number of things it’s infamous for. Namely, the alkaloid causes severe withdrawal effects on addicted users, and it has a very high risk of dependency developments in users who take too much, too often. Let’s take a look at a couple of 7-OH alternatives on the market today and have a discussion surrounding their safe use; both in terms of health, but also legality.
Psuedoindoxyl
Psuedoindoxyl (or, simply, Pseudo) is an alternative to 7-OH that is sold by Real Botanicals. A number of things might pop out to an experienced 7-OH user at first. First, the tablets, in this case, are flavored, and although that has nothing to do with what the point of this article is, it’s worth mentioning that these tablets are acceptable enough from a legal and popularity perspective for vendors to warrant flavoring them to get an edge over their competitors, though this will be more important later.
For now, consider the dosage. An average recommended dosage for a 7-OH experience by anyone who isn’t an absolute beginner is about 5mg. That dose will give you the benefits of 7-OH, without going near the 10mg mark, which would otherwise up the risk of cardiovascular issues to unacceptable levels. Real Botanicals’ 7-OH tablets are 10mg per tablet, but are scored to be halved easily, which makes perfect sense here.
Real Botanicals’ Psuedo tablets are marked at a collective 50mgs each, but are made to be quartered. Presuming all things being roughly equal, one can deduce that an average dosage of Pseudo, whether for pain management or recreational use, is at 12.5mgs.
One might be tempted to justify the usage of Pseudo through the logic of common dosages: because it takes more Psuedo to achieve a similar effect as 7-OH, it’s technically safer at the same dosages. However, we have to be completely honest and admit that nobody is going to be taking Psuedo instead of 7-OH for a worse or less effective outcome. That is to say, someone who usually takes 5mg of 7-OH will probably just be taking at least 10mgs of Pseudo, nullifying whatever health benefit they would have gained from switching.
There is one avenue through which their differences can be seen as “safer”, although this is to do with legality and not health itself. Because 7-OH is facing heavier scrutiny across the world, and definitely within specific states of the U.S., Psuedo is technically a lot safer and easier to access in the face of legal issues. For someone who likes to prepare ahead of time for disasters, having a stash of Psuedo instead of 7-OH might mean that they have their stash stay perfectly legal for a longer period of time than it otherwise would have been.
Oxonol
Another proprietary blend of Real Botanicals, Oxonol is a semi-synthetic form of 7-OH that was created to meet compliance with stricter laws around the production and sale of 7-OH. As advertised, Oxonol isn’t for users who are new to Kratom products or Kratom extracts such as 7-OH, which means its safe to assume that it isn’t safe to consume. At least, no safer than 7-OH, which comes with its aforementioned share of heavy risks.
It bears repeating that, because of the creation of Oxonol due to legal compliance, it is safer from a legal perspective. Oxonol has a higher chance of being legal in multiple territories at random than 7-OH which means that people who like to travel will have a much easier time crossing borders with the substance.
So, yes, in that sense Oxonol is safer than 7-OH when talking only about the law. It also has a higher average dosage, with Real Botanicals scoring their tablets for a 15mg dose per sitting, which is three times the average dosage with 7-OH. Again, that technically means that Oxonol is safer per milligram than 7-OH, but adjusting for outcome instead of input, it’s all going to come down to how well the user tempers their consumption of the product and whether or not they have a history of drug abuse.
Needless to say, users with a history of drug addiction should avoid all of these substances outright.
